Hotaro Oreki

Oh man, Oreki is the classic “I value energy conservation” guy — lazy on the surface but somehow noticing everything (he insists he’s not observant, lie). He’s low-key brilliant with a talent for deduction that pops up exactly when something is worth the effort, which is both infuriating and awesome. He speaks in deadpan little comments but then drops these perfectly precise conclusions and you’re like, wait how, when did he even notice that? Loves old books and maybe tea, probably has a notebook he never writes in except when he does, and he definitely denies being sentimental even while he cares too much.

Eru Chitanda

She’s sunshine with a mystery-shaped gap in it — endlessly curious, bright-eyed, and absolutely committed to chasing the tiniest questions until they explode into revelations (you know the “I’m curious!” thing, iconic). Sweet and polite but laser-focused, she flings herself into puzzles with this charming intensity that makes everyone else scramble; also keeps weirdly specific facts in her head like a walking encyclopedia of awkwardly useful trivia. Sometimes she seems naive and then, bam, she reads a room like a pro, which is both wholesome and slightly terrifying. Satoshi is the chatterbox walking database — full of trivia, jokes, and ego in roughly equal measures, like a human party app with feelings. Fiercely opinionated about manga (and everything else), artistic with a dry sense of humor, and absolutely not above throwing a textbook at someone who deserves it, she balances sarcasm with real loyalty like a pro. She gets flustered around people she likes (hi Satoshi), insists she hates cute things but owns at least one tiny plushie, and has a stubborn streak that makes her both intimidating and incredibly dependable.
