Meet the characters from How to Train Your Dragon
Hiccup
Hiccup is the awkward genius who somehow becomes the heart of it all — you can see the gears turning behind those freckled cheeks, even when he’s tripping over a toolbox. He’s brave in the soft, quiet way (not just yelling and swinging a sword) and also kind of stubbornly inventive, which means he’ll build you a mechanical dragon tail and then apologize for breaking your ceiling. He cares so much about doing the right thing that he overthinks literally everything, but somehow that’s his superpower? Oh and he’s low-key a romantic and smells faintly of sea salt and burnt gears depending on the day.
Astrid
Astrid is pure, no-nonsense warrior energy with a secret soft spot — she’ll kick down a door and then knit you a scarf (I’m not kidding, I’ve seen fan art). She’s fierce, competitive, and impossibly loyal; she doesn’t sugarcoat things, which is why she’s both terrifying and deeply comforting. Also, she keeps getting better at subtle emotional sabotage (in the best way) and inexplicably owns like three tiny, very judgemental leather jackets.
Stoick the Vast
Stoick is big, loud, and somehow both intimidating and unbelievably dad-level when it matters (he does this growly-love thing that makes you feel safe?). He’s the mountain of a leader who values strength and honor, but also has surprisingly tender moments where he’ll just sit and stare at the horizon like he’s solving ancient Viking problems. He can be stubborn to a fault — smash first, think later — but he’s got a soft spot for family and tradition (and I’m pretty sure he secretly cries at tiny dragon paintings).
Valka
Valka is the wild dragon whisperer who lives in a pile of dragon trinkets and zero shame, an untamable spirit who talks to dragons like they’re her book club. She’s fiercely protective and weirdly calm in catastrophe, the kind of person who will braid a dragon’s mane and then explain a five-point plan for coexistence. She’s mysterious and maternal but also a little chaotic (has no patience for village rules but color-codes her hoard — maybe), and honestly she gives “badass aunt who brings dragons to holidays” vibes.
Toothless
Toothless is basically a cat wrapped in a jet-black dragon and it is the single most chaotic combination ever — expressive eyes, adorable head tilts, and also an absolute apex predator when he wants to be. He communicates in looks and tiny noises and somehow says more with a blink than most characters do with speeches, which is wild. Playful but deadly, loyal to a fault, will steal fish and your heart in equal measure; and yes, he sometimes acts like a toddler with a spaceship (adorable and slightly reckless).
The Light Fury
The Light Fury is sleek, enigmatic, and basically the cool, mysterious new kid who makes everyone rethink their life choices. She’s graceful and cautious at first but blindsidingly bold when it counts — equal parts shy and flirtatious, which is confusing and delightful. She acts like she doesn’t care about dramatics but then totally pulls a dramatic rescue three scenes later, and also collects shiny things? Little contradictions, because of course.
