About “Corpse Bride” in a few words:
“Corpse Bride” is an animated musical fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson. Set in a quaint Victorian village and the mysterious world of the departed, it follows the story of Victor, who accidentally proposes to a deceased bride named Emily while rehearsing his marriage vows in the woods. As he tries to find his way back to his true love, Victoria, he gets entangled in the enchanting realm of the afterlife and learns lessons about love, sacrifice, and acceptance.
Meet the characters from Corpse Bride
Victor Van Dort
Victor is adorably anxious and always about three seconds away from saying the wrong thing, but in the most endearing, awkward-hero kind of way. He wants to be proper and impress his parents and also practices polite speeches in the mirror at midnight — not that he’d ever admit that. Timid and clumsy, yet somehow brave when it counts, he’s the bridge between worlds and you cannot help rooting for him, even when he’s literally tripping over fate. Also, I’m pretty sure he hums tunelessly when nervous and maybe collects tiny floral buttons? Maybe.
Emily
Oh Emily — tragic, radiant, and totally theatrical, she’s the best kind of ghost: dramatic but heartbreakingly sincere. She adores wedding things, sings like it’s her job, and drapes herself in petals and lace like she’s got an entire wardrobe committee back in the underworld. Sweet and fiercely loyal, with a mischievous glint that makes you forget she’s technically a skeleton for a second, then you remember and feel weirdly protective. She’s both mournful and gleeful, and I swear she rearranges bones for aesthetics sometimes — not practical, very Emily.
Victoria Everglot
Victoria is the perfectly polite, rosy-cheeked ingénue who blushes at a compliment and writes very proper thank-you letters. She’s prim and proper and also quietly stubborn — the type who will do the sensible thing and secretly practice tiny rebellions in the garden (mud on gloves? don’t look at me). Very kind, very earnest, but she’s not a pushover; there’s a steady backbone under the lace, and she has surprising strength when it matters. Oh, and she probably has a secret stash of wildflower clippings and horrible romantic novels she pretends not to read.
Barkis Bittern
Barkis is the slick, smiley villain who purrs like honey but tastes like the cheapest rum — charming on the surface and rotten underneath. He’s smooth, conniving, and always got a scheme simmering; his words are honeyed and his handshake is absolutely rehearsed. Ridiculously vain (the hat is never wrong), yet weirdly obsessed with little knickknacks and sometimes showing a bafflingly tender look when a pigeon ignores him — it’s confusing and adds flavor. Basically, he’s the kind of bad guy who looks immaculate while stabbing you in the back, and he’ll cough dramatically afterward because of course he will.
