About “GeGeGe no Kitaro” in a few words:
GeGeGe no Kitaro is a Japanese manga and anime series that follows the adventures of Kitaro, a young boy who is the last surviving member of the Ghost Tribe. Alongside his friends and allies, Kitaro works to maintain peace between humans and yokai (supernatural beings) and defend the world from evil spirits and monsters. Meet the characters from GeGeGe no Kitaro
Neko Musume
Okay, Neko Musume is basically the adorable yet slightly messy cat-girl energy bomb of the cast — feisty, affectionate, and liable to swat your face off if you look at her wrong. She’s fiercely loyal to Kitaro (most of the time), but also has this maddening independence where she disappears for days because a moonlit alley called her name. Likes: fish, naps in sunbeams, dramatic entrances. Dislikes: boring humans and people who call her “cute” like it’s the only thing she is — except sometimes she totally leans into the cute, so, you know, mood swings.
Agnes
Agnes is that quietly intense character who creeps into scenes with this calm, almost bookish vibe — somehow both very modern and like she knows ancient secrets, which is kind of suspicious but fascinating. She’s observant, practical, and weirdly sentimental about tiny things (bookmark hoarder? maybe). Doesn’t scream or anything dramatic, but when she acts, you feel it — like a slow burn, not fireworks, though sometimes she does fireworks accidentally. She might have a guilty love for goth accessories? Or was that someone else I’m remembering, hmm.
Medama Oyaji
Medama Oyaji is literally eyeball dad and honestly one of my favorite tiny sages ever — snarky, wise, and more dramatic than his size suggests. He lives in a teacup or a shell or Kitaro’s pocket (I forget the exact vessel — details), and yet he dispenses life advice like a grumpy philosopher who also likes tea. He’s proud, protective, and has this delightfully gross habit of making everyone a little uncomfortable with his eyeball puns. Also, he’s weirdly maternal sometimes? But still very much a dad, okay.
Mana Inuyama
Mana is the heartfelt human anchor — brave, kind, and always a little stubborn in the best way, which is why she’s usually in the thick of yokai messes despite knowing better. She cares a lot (maybe too much) and has that “I’ll help you even if it’s dangerous” vibe, which is both noble and dumb in that adorable way. She’s practical when she has to be, but also collects tiny trinkets that make no sense (lock of hair? pebble?). Honestly she’s the kind of person you want on your side and also occasionally want to wrap in bubble wrap.
Kitarou
Kitarou is the quiet, slightly spooky hero — deadpan, clever, and the sort of kid who looks like he’s half-shadow but is actually just trying very hard to do the right thing. He fights yokai but he doesn’t relish violence; it’s more like duty plus a very dry sense of humor (you’ll miss it if you blink). He’s got iconic hair that falls in his face, weird detachable limbs sometimes? (I may be mixing myths, but it’s cool either way.) Deep loyalty, weirdly expressive eyebrows, and the stubborn moral compass of someone who’s seen too much and still believes people can be okay.
Nezumi Otoko
Nezumi Otoko is the lovable slimeball rat-man con artist who somehow never learns — greedy, scheming, and absolutely charming in a slimy, infuriating way. He’ll sell you your own shadow if there’s profit in it, but then he’ll cry about it later and ask for a loan, which you’ll give because he’s annoyingly endearing. He smells like old newspapers and bad ideas, but sometimes (rarely) he actually does the right thing, and you clap because it’s a surprise. He’s cowardly, crafty, and probably has a stash of bizarre trinkets that explain nothing and everything.
