Meet the characters from Vermeil in Gold

Alto Goldfield

Alto is this adorably flustered protagonist who tries so hard to be a normal student but ends up dragging ancient demons and chaos into his life instead — in the best possible way. He’s polite to a fault, does that nervous smile thing a lot, and somehow becomes braver the more out-of-his-depth he is (which is most of the time). Loves studying, actually, but will absolutely forget his homework the second Vermeil snaps her fingers — classic. He hoards little paper scraps for reasons he can’t remember and definitely eats candy like a guilty snack thief, even though he insists he’s trying to be “mature.”

Lilia Kudelfeyt

Lilia is the kind of elegant, slightly icy upperclassman who pretends not to notice everything — but she totally notices everything, and will judge you silently while saving your life later. She’s sharp, clever with spells, and has this aristocratic air that makes people assume she’s cold, which is unfair because she’s secretly dramatic in tiny, adorable ways. Obsessed with rules on the outside, secretly hates them when it matters and will break one for a friend (or for a really good pastry). Also, she collects weirdly specific bookmarks and swears she doesn’t, which is suspicious and kind of charming.

Vermeil

Vermeil is the show-stealing, dramatic demon who lives for flair, jewelry, and Alto’s attention — like, melodramatic queen energy but also surprisingly clingy and soft sometimes. She’s overwhelmingly powerful, theatrical, and has this whole “I will protect you and also declare you mine” vibe that is both terrifying and heart-melting. Can go from sultry diva to childlike glee in a heartbeat (and yes, she will redecorate your room at 3 a.m. because vibes). Oh and she cooks but sets off the smoke alarm on purpose because ambience, which is both a power move and a disaster.

Iolite

Iolite is the cool, composed rival-ish type who smiles infuriatingly calmly while mentally cataloging your flaws — but like, in the most fashionably aloof way. Quiet, precise magic user, exudes competence, and you get the sense they’ve read twelve grimoires before breakfast and possibly naps with a spellbook. Occasionally shows tiny cracks of sarcasm or weird enthusiasm for obscure hobbies (competes in mini-garden contests? maybe?), which makes them way less intimidating than the poker face suggests. They probably hoard pens and will correct your posture without asking, but only because they care, honest.

Elena Kimberlight

Elena is polished, super well-mannered, and absolutely not someone to cross unless you want a polite diplomatic meltdown that stings anyway. She’s the sort who organizes events, gives flawless speeches, and somehow carries a pocket-sized emergency snack kit like a tiny, diplomatic Mary Poppins. Underneath the poised exterior is a warm, surprisingly goofy person who collects plushies and writes terrible puns in her free time (shh, she swears she doesn’t). Also alternates between being a perfectionist and a happy-go-lucky impulsive snacker, which is unsettlingly relatable.

Chris Westland

Chris is the loud, friendly type who runs everywhere, cheers too loudly, and will fight you for a sandwich even if he was the one who lost it five minutes ago. He’s athletic, a bit reckless, super loyal, and somehow manages to be a calming presence while also causing small-scale chaos (like the time he “accidentally” borrowed the school mascot outfit and never returned it). Loves practical jokes and has oddly specific trivia memorized about absolutely nothing important, which is both annoying and endearing. He insists he’s low maintenance but has a color-coded schedule for everything, which he admits only under duress.
