About “Thundercats” in a few words:

Thundercats is an animated television series that originally aired from 1985 to 1989. The show follows a group of humanoid cats, known as Thundercats, who must defend their home planet of Third Earth from the evil forces of Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living. With its iconic characters and action-packed storylines, Thundercats has become a cult classic beloved by fans of all ages.

Meet the characters from Thundercats

Lion-O

Okay, so Lion-O is basically the big-hearted, slightly overdramatic leader who learned leadership the hard way (like, literally grew up in a blink — time-lapse baby to leader, wild). He gives these epic motivational speeches and then immediately trips over something small, which I love, because grand and goofball in one package. Protective to a fault, brave, and sometimes a little impatient — also really into sunsets? He totally misplaces the Sword of Omens every few episodes (don’t tell him I said that) but when stuff hits the fan he turns into this inspiring, growly hero and you’re like, yeah, go Lion-O.

Tygra

Tygra is the stoic brains/architect type who keeps trying to be calm and collected and usually succeeds, except when he’s secretly sulking like a proud cat. He’s the team strategist, all blueprints and plans, but also has this weird fondness for practical jokes on very rare, tragic days when he lets his hair down. Super loyal and annoyingly composed, yet sometimes he’ll show this dry, almost wry sense of humor that sneaks up on you. He’s also inexplicably good at pottery? Or was that fan art — either way, he’s the thoughtful anchor of the group.

Panthro

Panthro is the muscle-mechanic who can fix anything with duct tape and a stare, and also punch a mountain if necessary — and he looks like he hates shoes but secretly has a sneaker collection. He’s gruff, no-nonsense, scarred in a cool way, and the kind of friend who will call you out but also weld you a spaceship in an afternoon. Deep down he’s got this soft spot (pets, old songs, maybe a poem hidden in his toolkit) and you can tell he cares more than he admits. Also, mandatory: he’s the best pilot and the worst at small talk, and he might bake if coerced.

Cheetara

Cheetara is lightning-fast, both physically and mentally — like, one moment she’s a blur, the next she’s meditating on the meaning of everything, and somehow that combo works. She’s perceptive and kind of an oracle vibe (visions! intuition!), but also jokes about being clumsy around furniture sometimes, which cracks me up. Fierce protector, forever patient, with a secret love of fast food and maybe saxophone jazz at midnight (I’m not saying she plays, but imagine the vibe). She’s graceful and grounded and also capable of running into ancient ruins at top speed like it’s a casual jog.

Snarf

Snarf is the comic relief and the heart — equal parts whining and bravery, always fretting but never really out of the action, somehow. He hoards snacks, gives dubious advice, and calls everyone by the cutest nickname, then saves the day in the most unexpected, mop-topped way. He’s strangely wise in tiny, round packages of wisdom (and also loudly insists he’s not scared, which is adorable). Definitely the team parent-slash-mascot, and I can picture him organizing sock drawers while warning about monsters.

WilyKit

WilyKit is tiny dynamite — mischievous, clever, and forever sliding into danger with a grin and a handful of tricks, like a pocket-sized chaos magician. She’s the prankster who can pick a lock, steal a candy, and then guilt-trip you into feeling better, all in one breath. Sweet, a little reckless, and fiercely loyal, and also collects stickers? (Probably stickers.) Somehow both childlike and incredibly competent — she’ll climb the rafters and then make tea for everyone like it was planned.

Mumm-Ra

Mumm-Ra is the over-the-top ancient evil who lives for theatrical monologues, tomby lairs, and spiteful nostalgia about his former youth, which is both terrifying and kind of hilarious. He’s smug, theatrical, and will curse you with bad hair decades in advance, plus he’s got this whole “Ever-Living” angle that sounds dramatic and also like a health plan. Immensely powerful but petty (like, will sulk for an episode if his ritual is interrupted), and somehow very into ornate robes and yelling. He’s the villain you love to boo, because he’s dramatic and ridiculous and occasionally terrifying in the best way.
