Meet the characters from Stargirl
Courtney Whitmore
Okay, Courtney is the absolute sunbeam of the crew — ridiculously optimistic, full of energy, and somehow manages to turn being a teenager into an extreme sport. She swings that Cosmic Staff like she was born holding it (maybe she was?), and she’s equal parts leader and chaos magnet — always diving in before she’s finished thinking, which is both terrifying and delightful. She hoards sentimental junk (glitter, ticket stubs, a very dramatic sticker collection) and will also drag you to do-gooder community service at midnight. Also, she forgets homework but remembers everyone’s birthdays, and yes she cries at inspirational commercials, fight me.
Yolanda Montez
Yolanda is quietly fierce — smart, principled, and when she decides something matters she becomes single-minded in the best way. She’s the one who reads every manual, keeps a painfully organized notebook, and also secretly scribbles angry song lyrics in the margins because feelings. She’s dealing with a lot of grief and responsibility but the way she shows up is steady and real, even if she’s lowkey terrified on the inside. She collects old vinyl and can quote movies one minute and punch a hole in a dumpster the next; very contradictory in an intriguing, human way.
Mike Dugan
Mike is the friend-and-brother energy that keeps things weird and soothing all at once — goofy, loyal, and a little obsessed with conspiracy podcasts (but like, in a charming way). He’s the kind of guy who’ll fix your bike, roast you lightly, and then show up with pizza at 2 AM because he knows you need it. He bumbles through larger problems with a kind of accidental competence — hates rules but respects people, which is a good combo. Also owns an alarming number of batteries and sometimes forgets names but not faces; very specific, very him.
Beth Chapel
Beth is the shy genius vibe done so well — brainy, kind, and with this awkward confidence that blooms into real hero energy when it counts. She loves tech and medicine and has a lab coat that gets more character than you’d expect; also obsessed with vintage goggles for reasons she can’t fully explain. She doubts herself a lot but then flips a switch and becomes laser-focused, supportive to a fault and deeply moral. Tiny quirk: she’s allergic to one mystery snack she’ll never identify and cries when she’s happy, which is a lot lately.
Pat Dugan
Pat is the giant, warm, somewhat exasperated dad-mentor who will build a robot from duct tape and regret nothing. He’s fiercely protective (and slightly embarrassed by his own soft emotional playlist), practical to the core, and somehow both the brain and the brawn behind the team’s weird gear. He tells corny jokes, bangs on things in the garage like a one-man band, and will absolutely sing show tunes in the car if you let him. Grizzled and goofy, he insists he hates rom-coms but will pause one and watch the last five minutes every time.
Barbara Whitmore
Barbara is the pragmatic heart of the household — hardworking, endlessly patient, and low-key the boss without much fanfare. She balances real-world worries with this fierce protectiveness for Courtney that can switch into soft encouragement in a heartbeat (and also a glare that can stop a meeting cold). She has a ridiculously curated plant corner and talks to them like they’re extended family, and she drinks enough iced tea to irrigate a small farm. Also prone to sudden, delightful impulsiveness that makes you wonder what her secret life was at twenty-two.
Jordan Mahkent
Jordan has this chillingly calm presence that’s equal parts aristocratic villain and wounded dad, which makes him unnervingly compelling. He’s controlling, strategic, and believes in a colder, more ordered world — classic “end justifies the means” energy — but there’s also this tragic attempt at legacy and family that muddies the waters. He listens to classical music while planning things, which is wildly theatrical, and keeps his emotions very locked down except for occasional, surprising flashes of vulnerability. Kind of loves being in charge way too much, but also sometimes quietly regrets it, which is weirdly human.
Cindy Burman
Cindy is chaos in a designer outfit — sharp, flashy, mean, and honestly kind of fun to watch when she decides to be theatrical. She loves being the center of attention, wields a terrifyingly inventive arsenal, and has a pet dragon-thing that is both adorable and approximately lethal. Underneath the glitter and sass there are cracks — insecurity, a weird loyalty to the wrong people, and the occasional act of unexpected kindness that she immediately denies. She collects stickers that say “DO NOT TOUCH” and then touches everything, which is peak Cindy.
Rick Tyler
Rick is explosive and complicated in a way that makes him hard to forget — quick-tempered, prideful, but with a strong sense of doing what’s right even if he grumbles the whole time. He’s carrying a legacy like a weight that makes him lash out, but he’s also surprisingly protective and weirdly sentimental (writes angsty haikus at 3 AM, probably). He’s built like someone who’s done a lot of manual labor and drives like he’s late to a duel, and you sense there’s honor under the anger. Also very into black coffee and quietly loves cheesy romance scenes when he thinks no one’s watching.
Brainwave
Brainwave is the textbook genius-turned-menace — terrifyingly smart, manipulative, and with psychic powers that make him one of the scariest people in the room. He’s clinical, proud, and believes his intellect justifies the worst of his choices, which is both terrifying and strangely logical. He hums lullabies while plotting and has a weirdly meticulous routine that includes rearranging cufflinks five times, like some gothic perfectionist. He gardens for stress relief (yes, really) and will charm you with an unsettling smile before bending your will, which is the worst kind of charisma.
