Meet the characters from Ash vs Evil Dead

Ashley ‘Ash’ J. Williams

Ash is the loud, chainsaw-handed anti-hero you can’t help but root for — equal parts macho one-liner machine and surprisingly stubborn survivor. He’s always got a boomstick (and the confidence to use it) and a terrible, kinda adorable knack for problem-solving by sheer idiocy and elbow grease. Deep down he’s a mess of nostalgia for the ‘80s, trauma he won’t talk about, and a weirdly tender loyalty to his friends — also he probably keeps a mixtape of bad hair-metal somewhere, don’t ask. He brags, he stumbles, he saves the day and then makes a joke about it; sometimes he’s heroic and sometimes he’s just hungry, which is basically the same thing.

Pablo Simon Bolivar

Pablo is the heart — like, literal emotional core — loyal to Ash in a way that makes you tear up in public transit, and also inexplicably into dream-magic and shaman vibes. He’s brave, quick with a plan (that usually involves yelling and a machete), and has this accidental charm of someone who’s both wise and chaotic; sometimes he translates Spanish, sometimes he invents new swear words, who knows. He’s tender, fierce, a little superstitious, and yes he definitely has a ritual that involves soup and a hymn (or maybe that was his breakfast, I can’t remember). He grows into this mythic protector role but also still jokes about movie snacks, which is why he’s the best.

Kelly Maxwell

Kelly is pure, relentless fury in the best possible way — warrior-level, scarred-by-life but unbreakable, and frankly the series’ “don’t mess with her” poster child. She’s scrappy, quick to fight and quicker to care, with a soft spot for family and maybe a playlist full of angry girl power anthems (or lullabies, sometimes she surprises you). She swears like a sailor, improvises weapons out of thin air, and will absolutely call your bluff while also being suspiciously into glitter lip balm, which is somehow her trademark. Under the rage is a tender humanity that shows up in tiny gestures — making a sandwich for someone who’s had a worse day, or stealing a cat for emotional support — and that makes her impossible to forget.

Ruby Knowby

Ruby is the slippery, deliciously untrustworthy redhead with secrets up her sleeve and possibly under her floorboards — equal parts scholar, killer, and walking mystery box. She reads the Necronomicon like it’s a menu, has a murky moral compass (and a fondness for knives), and will smile while you realize she’s three steps ahead and also three steps behind depending on her mood. She claims to be on the side of good, then does something morally dubious, then gives you a haunting look that suggests she knows you better than you know yourself; also she collects teacups? Maybe that’s a lie — or the only honest thing about her. Fascinating, dangerous, and oddly magnetic, Ruby makes you question everything — including whether you should trust your own instincts.
