Meet the characters from Moomin
Moomintroll
Moomintroll is the big-hearted, curious spine of the Moominvalley crew — awkwardly brave and ridiculously optimistic, like he forgot worry at home and left it under the sofa. He loves exploring, afternoon tea, and collecting odd bits (rocks, strings, probably a half-sung song) and will insist on talking to every creature he meets, even the grumpy ones. He can be timid one minute and wildly adventurous the next, which is basically adorable chaos, and sometimes he acts sensible for a while and then completely forgets why. Also, he has a maybe-imaginary talent for fixing things with duct tape and hugs people as a first-aid measure.
Little My
Little My is the pint-sized cyclone you never saw coming — sharp-tongued, gleefully rude, and somehow the most honest person in the valley, whether you asked for honesty or not. She lives for mischief and dramatic entrances, hates dullness with a passion, and will roll her eyes so hard it feels like a weather event. Somehow tiny fists = huge personality, and she’ll probably steal your hat and then lecture you about bravery while grinning. Low-key sentimental? Maybe. Unlikely. But sometimes, shockingly, she cares.
Snufkin
Snufkin is the wandering philosopher with a harmonica and a permanent flannel mood, which is to say he’s impossibly cool and quietly devastating. He hates fences and regulations and loves disappearing for months then showing up with a poem, a hat with an extra feather, and a mysterious smile. There’s this melancholy sweetness to him — he’s always calm but you get the sense he’s holding a pocket of old sea wind or something — and he’s unexpectedly practical about packing (socks, fishing line, perhaps a tragic novel). He’s loyal in a suitcase way: he wanders but he always returns, and you’ll forgive everything because of the harmonica.
Snorkmaiden
Snorkmaiden is adorably romantic and detail-obsessed in the gentlest way, always smoothing things out and fussing over small decorations like the world is a tea cosy waiting to happen. She’s curious, scientific-ish sometimes (measures things? maybe sketches them?), and kind of awkward in the best possible way — thinks about feelings a lot and often blushes at the sunset. She can be vain one minute (very into ribbons) and utterly brave the next, like someone who’ll cry over a poem and climb a cliff because why not. Also possibly obsessed with the perfect hat, which she will absolutely lose in a dramatic gust and then laugh about for centuries.
Hemulen
Hemulen is the official collector and rule-follower with endless hobbies and a soft, booming voice that makes stamps sound like sacred relics. He gets wildly passionate about things (butterflies, cataloguing, gardening — he’s the person who will alphabetize nature) and can be awkwardly intense in that “I love this very much” way; sometimes he’s stern, sometimes teddy-bear. He thinks paperwork is calming and also cries at art unexpectedly; sometimes he’s stodgy, sometimes he’s free as a kite, which is confusing but delightful. Also, he owns a ridiculous number of notebooks and possibly one cape, maybe two.
Thingumy and Bob
Thingumy and Bob are the mysterious, whispery twosome who travel together like a tiny conspiracy — always in possession of an odd little box or suitcase that means a lot to them and probably nobody else (or is it everybody else? who knows). They speak in quick, secretive bursts and finish each other’s sentences, and they’re equal parts mischievous and oddly sweet, like a riddle you want to cuddle. They can be squeaky and urgent about their priorities, then suddenly sentimental and tender — contradictory, sure, but that’s their charm. Also they might have a weird accent, or a shared hat, or both; details blur when they’re around because you’re too busy wondering what’s in the box.
