Meet the characters from Steven Universe

Steven Universe

Okay, Steven is sunshine with a ukulele and probably too many snack stains on his shirt — like, he’s endlessly optimistic and will hug a problem until it apologizes. He’s brave in this adorably awkward way, part healer, part kid who still gets scared at the dark sometimes, which makes him way more relatable than he should be. He fuses, sings, cries, and saves worlds but also will absolutely drag you into a conspiracy about pizza toppings if you’re not careful. Also, he collects weird trinkets and hugs rocks? Not kidding, he cherishes tiny things and that’s kind of his whole power.

Pearl

Pearl is basically precision wrapped in emotion, a walking choreographed monologue who will correct your posture and then cry about it five minutes later. She’s obsessed with order, with ritual, with honoring the Past (and Rose—ugh, the Rose feelings are a whole thing), but underneath the pointe shoes she’s fiercely, messily protective. She wields a spear like it’s an extension of her vocabulary, and yes she probably has color-coded binders for battle plans. Sometimes she’s impossibly composed but then she’ll make terrible cupcakes and get dramatic about missing stamps, which I love.

Amethyst

Amethyst is chaos in the best way — loud, messy, absolutely into snacks and pranks, constantly late, and somehow still the most emotionally honest of the bunch. She acts like she doesn’t care about anything (giant, whirling sarcasm), but she’s secretly very vulnerable about where she came from and how she fits in, and that hits. She shapeshifts for fun, breaks stuff for fun, and then cries while fixing it because she’s got feelings. Also she definitely owns at least three onesies and somewhere a prized sock collection, and she’s weirdly tidy about that one drawer.

Garnet

Garnet is calm power — like, she makes you feel safe just by existing, and then casually flicks a fusion punch that rewrites your plans for the day. She’s composed, speaks in short sentences, and has future vision which is equal parts reassuring and terrifying, because she kind of knows what you’re gonna do before you do it. People say she’s stoic but she’s actually quietly very in love with the small human stuff (tea? sunsets? maybe a secret playlist). Also weirdly, she’ll drop a dry joke and then go back to being a granite cliff of composure — it’s adorable and a little baffling.

Greg Universe

Greg is the soft-hearted, slightly goofy dad you didn’t know you needed; a former rock musician who now writes songs about feelings and lives on a beach with an uncanny ability to tell the perfect dumb story at the worst possible time. He’s kind, sentimental, and totally earnest, and he makes terrible sandwich concoctions that somehow taste like nostalgia. He’s not a gem but his human-ness keeps the show grounded, like he’s both the laugh track and the emotional anchor. Also he has a million songs and will absolutely sing one about your cat if given a chance.

Connie Maheswaran

Connie is the studious, sword-wielding best friend who sneaks up on you with competence and then stabs a training dummy with impeccable form. She’s disciplined and smart and reads everything, but she’s also awkward and sweet and gets flustered in exactly the cutest ways—you can see her brain calculating ten contingency plans and then doodling hearts in the margins. She wants to be brave on purpose, practices until her muscles hate her, and somehow manages to be both serious and a little giggly. Also: carries a notebook like it’s a security blanket and sometimes forgets where she put it (classic Connie).

Peridot

Peridot starts off as the tiny, snarky tech genius who rolls her eyes at everything and calls Earth “primitive” and then slowly turns into your awkward roommate who hoards electronics and chickens. She’s brilliant with machines, hilariously literal, and has a learning curve for feelings that’s half adorable documentary and half meltdown. She’s proud, prickly, and then weirdly sentimental about potted plants and tacky lawn ornaments—don’t ask, she’ll explain with charts. Also, she claims she hates humans but keeps a secret stash of small plushies, which is the cutest betrayal.
