Meet the characters from Citrus

Sara Tachibana

Sara is that quiet, unshakeable presence who somehow communicates more with a look than most people do with full speeches. She acts like she doesn’t care about drama but will quietly rearrange your life if she thinks it helps (also she owns an alarming number of cat plushies, don’t ask). Stoic on the outside, tiny incandescently soft when it comes to the people she loves — and yes she blushes, once, for like three seconds, which was adorable and also extremely out of character. She cooks like a pro and also sets off the smoke alarm on Tuesdays, so pick a lane, Sara.

Matsuri Mizusawa

Matsuri is sharp, smart, and kind of terrifying in the best way — you know the person who says exactly what everyone else is thinking but in a prettier tone. She’s ambitious and direct, will call you out, and secretly roots for the underdog while pretending she doesn’t care about anything but rules (then she sneaks snacks into the library, contradiction!). There’s this vibe of “I have a plan” about her and yet she also has this embarrassing love for ridiculous rom-coms, which she denies vigorously. She comes off cool but her loyalty is quietly volcanic, like a very controlled sightly dramatic volcano.

Mei Aihara

Mei is cold-as-ice, ruthless student-council energy with a soft, messy core that melts if you look at it sideways — seriously, she is complicated in a very delicious way. She runs things with precision, has that laser stare, and will both criticize you and protect you with the same exact expression. Behind the glare she actually collects cute ribbons and notebooks (yes, really, don’t tell her I said that) and will refuse to admit it until the end of time. She’s terrifyingly competent and occasionally suspiciously sentimental, which is both infuriating and the whole point.

Harumi Taniguchi

Harumi bursts into a room like a storm of confetti and snacks, loud, warm, and annoyingly efficient at fixing everyone’s mood. She meddles a lot (in the helpful way) and is the one who will drag you to karaoke whether you want it or not, then cry halfway through a ballad and swear she didn’t. She says she hates drama but will orchestrate peace treaties at 3 a.m. over instant noodles, and she somehow knows everyone’s emotional timeline on sight. Basically best-friend energy with a side of chaotic-good scheduling skills.

Yuzu Aihara

Yuzu is sunshine wrapped in glitter and impulsive decisions, the walking loud pastel mood board who will dye her hair on a whim and then fret about it for three days. She’s dramatic, heartfelt, and so stubbornly affectionate that it’s basically her superpower — she says the things others don’t and makes messes in the most charming way. She cares fiercely, collapses into chaos sometimes (like leaving ten half-finished craft projects everywhere), and then apologizes with snacks and an over-the-top display of friendship. She tries to be fashionable and responsible but will absolutely show up with two different shoes if it means getting to an important hug on time.

Nina Tachibana

Nina is sprightly and mischievous, the little tornado of energy who adores people loudly and is not subtle about it — she will steal your hat and your heart in equal measure. She’s playful and clingy in the best way, always inventing inside jokes and then giggling at them alone, and she once attempted to make a formal dinner into a themed party for reasons that made no sense and everything better. She idolizes Sara and oscillates between being overly protective and overly dramatic in ways that are kind of chaotic but also completely sincere. Sometimes she acts aloof like a tiny mystery, then immediately asks for a piggyback ride, which is her brand.
