Meet the characters from Blue Period

Yatora Yaguchi

Yatora is the kind of nervous energy that turns into art — obsessive, earnest, and a little dramatic. He goes from straight-A student to art-school maniac and somehow manages to be both painfully insecure and a little too confident at the same time. He obsesses over composition like it’s a life-or-death puzzle, forgets to eat during studio marathons, and also has this weird habit of collecting random postcards (no one knows why). He leads, sulks, apologizes, pushes himself until things break, then paints them back together, which is gross but also kind of beautiful.

Ryuji Ayukawa

Ryuji Ayukawa is the deliciously sharp counterpoint in the group — blunt, stylish, and never afraid to say what everyone else is thinking. He looks like he doesn’t care (leather jacket, cigarette-probably-not-actually-smoking) but he’s actually fiercely loyal and sneakily tender. His art has this raw punch, like a smack followed by a hug, and yes he will critique you in front of the class and then bring you ramen. He contradicts himself constantly — cold on the surface, sentimental in practice — which makes him maddening and irresistible.

Yotasuke Takahashi

Yotasuke Takahashi is that quietly intense upperclassman type who could be a rival but also a weirdly supportive mentor. Polished, a bit aloof, likes to dress sharp, but also has those tiny moments where he lets his guard down and you see the kid underneath the cool. His work is meticulous and a little showy (in a tasteful way) and he has this annoying habit of looking calm while totally recalculating his life choices. People think he’s untouchable, but he lingers too long over a single brush stroke and loses sleep like the rest of them.

Haruka Hashida

Haruka Hashida is the soft, obsessive color nerd who treats palettes like love letters. Quiet, meticulous, and weirdly intense about tones — she will rearrange your whole room to get the lighting right, I swear. She seems shy but actually has this dry little sense of humor that pops up at the perfect awkward moment, and yes she hoards swatches. Her art feels like a whisper that keeps echoing long after you look away.

Maki Kuwana

Maki Kuwana is fashion-forward, dramatic, and the friend who shows up with a surprise prop and a moral support snack. She loves textures, patterns, and making everything a little more theatrical — eyeliner, pins, giant scarves, you name it. She can be flaky but in a charming way; probably forgets deadlines but somehow pulls through with something stunning at the last minute. She praises you loudly, takes photos of everything, and will stage your sketches like they’re on a runway.

Maru Mori

Maru Mori (is it Maru? I’m always calling him ‘Maru’ out of habit) is the warm, gigantic-hearted friend who cooks like a champion and draws like a demon. Calm, practical, slightly spacey sometimes — he says the nicest ridiculous things and somehow makes everyone feel steadier. His sketches are deceptively simple but hit you right in the chest, and he has a hobby of leaving little post-it masterpieces around the studio. He likes weird snacks (maybe pickles? maybe sweet bread? can’t remember) and will defend his friends with an almost violent gentleness.
