About “Mieruko-chan” in a few words:
Mieruko-chan is a supernatural horror anime series that follows the daily life of a high school girl named Miko who has the ability to see ghosts and other supernatural creatures. Despite her fear, she tries to ignore them as much as possible until she meets Hana, a classmate who loves all things cute and encourages Miko to face her fears. As the series progresses, Miko encounters more terrifying and dangerous spirits, forcing her to use her abilities to protect herself and those around her.
Meet the characters from Mieruko-chan
Miko Yotsuya
Oh man Miko is the heart of the whole chaos — deadpan face, internal meltdown, somehow both a disaster and a survival expert when it comes to ghosts. She tries so hard to pretend everything’s normal (coffee, homework, casual screaming on the inside) and then stares blankly while a monster eats the neighbor’s cat? Not an exaggeration, I swear. She’s practical, a little stubborn, carries snacks like it’s a tactical decision, and also cries at commercials sometimes — yes really. You get the vibe she’s keeping a giant list of “do not acknowledge” rules in her head and then promptly forgets rule #3.
Hana Yurikawa
Hana is that sunshine friend who somehow misses the obvious — oblivious in the best way, forever cheerful, and aggressively supportive of Miko even when she should maybe be freaking out. She’s the kind of person who’ll drag you to karaoke at midnight and hand you a floral hair clip while also believing in normal explanations for everything (very charming, also suspicious). She’s louder than sense sometimes, but she notices small things about people — like their favorite boba or that they’re tired — even if she doesn’t notice spectral limbs. Low-key collects cute stationery, high-key would adopt a ghost if it liked puns (probably).
Yulia Niguredō
Yulia is the “what is she? ally? rival? creep?” character and I love that ambiguity — elegant, a little otherworldly, always polished like she stepped out of a vintage photograph. She gives off this quiet menace but also reads poetry at the bus stop? It’s confusing, in the most excellent way: poised but with weird hobbies, like knitting tiny hats for no reason. Sometimes she’s oddly tender, sometimes she’s a walking horror movie set-piece, and you never know which Yulia you’re getting that day.
Zen Tohno
Zen is the calm, low-key “did he just swoop in like a plot knight?” type — quiet, reliable, and suspiciously competent at everything from carrying groceries to not flinching at the gross stuff. He’s the safe harbor, but also has this slightly spooky, unreadable stare (in a good way), like he’s cataloguing your shoes and your trauma. He’ll do a single small thing that saves the day and then pretend it was nothing — classic. Loves rainy walks, maybe collects pens, maybe never sleeps, who knows, but definitely the kind of person you text at 2 a.m. and they answer.
Godmother
The Godmother is that perfect nightmare: domestic, syrupy, and utterly wrong — like a creepy Aunt who bakes cookies with teeth instead of chocolate chips. She speaks with fake warmth and huge gestures, and you can tell she’s memorized every human emotion just to mock it, but also sometimes she acts genuinely maternal? Confusing and terrifying in turns. She’s theatrical, obsessed with ceremony and manners, and somehow has a fondness for embroidery and screaming in the same breath.
Kyōsuke Yotsuya
Kyōsuke, Miko’s brother, is the kind of older sibling who teases you relentlessly but would absolutely show up if a demon tried to steal your homework. He’s cool and sarcastic, adopts a “mystery man” vibe but is secretly terrible at holding secrets (he’ll spill them with a shrug). He watches horror movies like they’re documentaries and then insists he’s not scared, while buying four different kinds of night-lights just in case. Protective, slightly broody, and actually very soft for his sister even if he’ll mock her taste in snacks the whole time.
