Meet the characters from The Irregular at Magic High School

Shiba Miyuki

Miyuki is basically the embodiment of “quiet but absolutely lethal,” like soft-spoken snow queen energy who will freeze a battlefield and your expectations. She’s ridiculously talented with ice magic — precision, elegance, terrifyingly efficient — but also has this adorably soft side where she obsesses over tea and has the softest, slightly clingy attachment to one person (you know who). Somewhere between painfully polite and casually terrifying, and sometimes she’s shy, sometimes she sashays like she owns the place; depends on the day or the humidity. Also she absolutely will judge your hot chocolate choices, with scientific accuracy.

Shiba Tatsuya

Tatsuya is that calm, ridiculously competent guy who makes everything look simple while secretly doing twenty impossible things at once. Emotionally low-key but fiercely protective, he’s the kind of person who dismantles problems like they’re IKEA furniture — systematically, efficiently, and slightly coldly — and then makes you dinner (he swore he didn’t, but he did). He’s not flashy — “understated” is his aesthetic — yet somehow everyone notices when he’s there; lethal precision with a dry, weirdly understated humor. Oh and he’s annoyingly good at everything; it’s mildly unfair.

Saegusa Mayumi

Mayumi is theater-in-person form: dramatic, charismatic, and loves to be the center of attention, but also has this brilliant, scheming brain behind the glitter. She’ll perform elaborate plans with a grin and somehow make manipulation seem like an art form — but you can tell she actually cares about her friends, in the way a stage director cares about cast safety (dramatically). Flirty one moment, deadly serious the next — she collects secrets like they’re vintage postcards. Also she probably owns more capes than anyone else in the series and definitely practices her grand entrances.

Yotsuba Maya

Maya is all business — stoic, efficient, and quietly terrifying when she’s displeased — the heir type who runs things with sharp eyes and fewer words. She’s loyal to a fault (in a proud-family way) and has this weirdly strict moral compass that makes her both reliable and a little inflexible; also she’ll judge your tie but then rescue you from a mess without making a fuss. Underneath the armor of professionalism there’s a small soft spot — rumor has it she has a secret stash of ridiculously sweet snacks (which she denies, of course). Honestly, she’s the kind of person who makes rules and then bakes cookies to bribe you into following them.

Chiba Erika

Erika is pure fired-up energy: fierce, blunt, and hilariously competitive, like a walking keg of sporty rage and loyalty. She’s the type who’d challenge you to duel over dinner choice and then cheer for you like nothing happened — proud, direct, a little jealous sometimes, but always on your side. Physical powerhouse with a surprisingly straightforward moral code; no nonsense, lots of honor, zero patience for spin. Also she has a soft spot for ridiculous comics and keeps trying to hide them in the back of her locker (badly).

Saijou Leonhard

Saijou is the pretty, smooth operator who smiles like he’s plotting something fun and also maybe morally ambiguous (in the best way). Charming, cunning, and effortlessly stylish, he’s the kind of charismatic leader who convinces everyone it was their idea and you’re like, well, okay. He’s playful and dangerous at once — loves challenges and the dramatics of conflict — and he definitely has a signature laugh that’s slightly too loud for secrets. Sometimes he’s annoyingly unpredictable, which is either his superpower or his hobby.

Shibata Mizuki

Mizuki is the unexpectedly sweet and slightly eccentric friend who carries tech manuals and cute stickers in the same bag, and it’s somehow perfect. A lovable scatterbrain at times, otherwise surprisingly sharp — she’s a swiss-army-knife kind of character: support, smarts, and an annoying habit of humming when she’s stressed. She’ll apologize for being late and then dismantle a complicated device in ten minutes flat (and apologize again for being charming). Also she claims she doesn’t like cats but definitely knows their schedules better than anyone.

Ichijou Masaki

Masaki gives dignified-mentor vibes: calm, measured, and with the kind of presence that makes people lower their voices and listen (even if you didn’t want to). He’s wise in a slightly old-fashioned way, thoughtful, and seems to have a past he rarely shows — the behind-the-scenes steady hand type who’s full of surprising little habits (like collecting mismatched teacups). He cares deeply but demonstrates it with quiet rules and inconveniently timed advice that actually helps you. Sometimes he’s a bit stern, sometimes he’s an unexpectedly terrible joke teller — both are true and both are endearing.

Juumonji Katsuto

Katsuto is sharp, analytical, and kind of the embodiment of dry sarcasm mixed with laser focus; a strategist who notices the tiniest things and files them away like trading cards. He’s intimidatingly competent and annoyingly consistent, but also has this weirdly specific hobby no one sees coming (ask him about it and he’ll deflect politely). Very rule-oriented, but when rules fail he improvises in ways that make you wonder if chaos is his hidden talent. He’s the chill-but-intense type who will correct your grammar and save your life in the same afternoon.

Mitsui Honoka

Honoka is sunshine wrapped in determination — sweet, genuinely kind, and a little awkward in the best possible way. She tries hard, supports everyone, and sometimes bursts into nervous enthusiasm that makes people want to hug her (or hide, depending). She’s more resilient than she looks, quietly stubborn, and has a bad habit of offering questionable snacks as peace offerings (it usually works). Also sometimes she flips between hopelessly shy and sudden, bold declarations of “I’ll do it!” which is maybe her superpower.
