Meet the characters from Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden

Oh my gosh Violet is just… the perfect quiet storm. She’s impeccably precise—like, every letter she writes is neat enough to frame—but then she’ll also do the most impulsive, very-not-calculable emotional things and make you gasp. She’s tender and awkward at feelings, says “I love you” like it’s a detonator and also like it’s a question, and her little ribbon obsession (yes she has more than one favourite ribbon, don’t ask) is somehow both adorably domestic and a soldier’s talisman. She hates messy ink but once stayed up all night scrubbing a single blot because it felt like she was fixing a memory.

Gilbert Bougainvillea

Gilbert is basically the warm sunbeam that also kicks you back into reality (in a good way). He’s confident and kind, a leader who somehow manages to be both terribly proper and a total softie when it comes to people he cares about — there’s this odd mix of discipline and tenderness that makes him impossibly compelling. He has this laugh that can fill a room and also the habit of leaving important notes for himself in ridiculous places, like inside shoes or under teacups, so don’t rely on his memory unless he left you a shoe. He seems steady as a rock but every now and then you catch a glimpse of something fragile underneath and then you want to hug him and also ask about war logistics.

Cattleya Baudelaire

Cattleya is all glamour and wit and I swear she could read a room before you even enter it. She’s theatrical in the best way, loves beautiful language, and will absolutely scold you with a smile (in a way that makes you forgive her immediately). She’s kind of a big sister figure — dramatic storytelling, dramatic clothes, slightly dramatic sighs — but also secretly hoards stationery like a dragon hoards gold, which is both terrifying and understandable. Every time she smokes a cigarette in a thoughtful scene I am equal parts fascinated and mildly scandalized, tbh.

Anne Magnolia

Anne is like the soft-hearted friend who knows everyone’s birthdays and remembers strange details you forgot you ever said. She’s gentle, endlessly empathetic, and has this impossibly soothing presence that makes people confess things over tea (or sob, depends on the day). She’s practical when needed—paperwork? she’s on it—but will also get caught staring out a window and daydreaming about impossible things, which makes her very relatable. She carries tiny mints everywhere for reasons that are probably sweet and maybe slightly suspicious.

Claudia Hodgins

Hodgins is the gruff, lovable captain of the ship (literally and metaphorically), a man who runs the place with a cigar in one hand and a soft spot in the other. He’s ex-military, painfully competent, and will bark orders like it’s theater but then fold you into a ridiculous aftercare routine if you’re visibly shaken. He keeps secrets behind a professional jaw, but when he talks about the past you can see the weight in his eyes—he’s practical to a fault and also unexpectedly sentimental about paper. Also he has this habit of pretending to be annoyed by the Auto Memory Dolls’ feelings while actually collecting their quirks like trophies.

Erica Brown

Erica is the sunshine chaos of the office—bubbly, a little mischievous, and frankly impossible not to love. She’s chatty, loves gossip and sweets (will definitely steal your cookies and then apologize with dramatic flair), and somehow manages to be both the most reliable person in a crisis and the one who forgets where she put her keys. She operates at a mile-a-minute energy level, offering hugs, bad puns, and strong opinions on stationery in equal measure. Don’t be fooled by the goofiness though; she has a surprisingly sharp perceptive streak when it counts, and will call you out with sugar-coated honesty.
