About “Digimon” in a few words:

It follows the adventures of a group of children and their partner creatures, known as Digimon, as they navigate a digital world filled with challenges and battles. Meet the characters from Digimon

J.P. Shibayama

Oh man J.P. is the literal best buddy energy — goofy, eternally hungry, and always ready with a baseball joke or a goofy face that somehow lightens every tense moment. He’s the one who runs on snacks, optimism, and a suspiciously powerful ability to cheer people up (also he can be weirdly zen about big problems, like, where did that come from?). Loyal to a fault, sometimes annoyingly stubborn, but in the way that makes you trust him to have your back — also he steals fries and says it’s “for team morale.” He’s surprisingly insightful sometimes, then immediately says something ridiculous, which I adore.

Izzy Izumi

Izzy is the walking laptop, the brain in a hoodie who can hack reality if given ten minutes and a USB stick — obsessed with data, love of logic, and a million sticky notes everywhere (and yes, there’s that one notebook he never loses). He’s socially awkward in the cutest way, like brilliant but blushing, and somehow both emotionally distant and deeply loyal — contradiction, hi! He’ll explain quantum whatever with the patience of a saint, then forget to eat for eight hours because he “needs to finish the code.” Also, he has this tiny habit of naming algorithms like pets, which is oddly endearing and slightly unnerving.

Yolei Inoue

Yolei is big personality, loud and warm and full of “let’s do it now!” energy — equal parts tech-savvy gamer and fashion girl, which is a combo I live for. She’s the friend who texts a million gifs, organizes rescue missions, and refuses to take no for an answer, but also melts into a puddle over a cute animal clip (and then lectures you about ethics in the same breath). Responsible one minute, impulsive the next — like she plans a schedule and then ignores it because tacos are happening. She’s super affectionate but also has this fiery “don’t cross my friends” streak that is simultaneously adorable and terrifying.

Takato Matsuki

Takato is that shy, imaginative kid with a sketchbook always under his arm and a monster in his heart (in the best way) — creator vibes, huge imagination, kind of awkward and huge on feelings. He’s soft, earnest, and will defend what he loves fiercely, but also has this dramatic flair like he might narrate his own life, which I secretly love. He’s brave in the slow-bloom way: terrified but doing it anyway, mostly for his Digimon buddy — also, he eats snacks while drawing, always crumbs on the page, sorry not sorry. Sometimes he’s annoyingly sensitive and also annoyingly heroic; it’s a package deal.

Mimi Tachikawa

Mimi is sparkle and sass and somehow also the person who brings cookies to a storm; she’s fashion-forward, dramatic, and impossible not to like even when she’s being a diva. She cares about manners, pretty things, and having a good time, but don’t underestimate her — she’s got surprising emotional depth and will show up when it counts (and then complain about the mud, loudly). She’s a walking contrast of pampered and practical: demands silk but will tend a sick Digimon like a tiny nurse, dramatic sighs included. Also, she hoards floral accessories but will also wear a mud-splattered jumper if the situation is dire — priorities, you know?

Tommy Himi

Tommy is pure sunshine — tiny, cheerful, optimistic to the point of being a beacon, and with a laugh that makes everyone feel safer (also he sings a lot, like random little tunes). He’s sweet and kind and genuinely believes in people, which makes his moments of quiet bravery extra powerful; he’s the one who’ll step up without a lecture. He’s also annoyingly wise for his age sometimes (where does he get these lines?) and other times adorably clueless about adult stuff, which is charming. Also, he loves sweets but will give you half his candy if you look sad, like a tiny candy saint.

Matt Ishida

Matt is broody in the coolest way possible — musician vibes, protective older-brother energy, and a general air of “I have feelings but will express them through a guitar solo.” He can be cold and snappy (ugh, the looks), but that aloofness covers a fiercely loyal heart and surprisingly soft spots for the people he cares about — he’d fight a mountain for them. He’s dramatic and moody and sometimes melodramatic, but also secretly collects ridiculous cute stuff (don’t tell anyone), which humanizes him in the best way. Also he’s annoyed by nonsense but will help you at 3AM, because his moral compass is tragically stubborn.

Rika Nonaka

Rika is icy, sharp, and terrifyingly competent — like she was forged from steel and very good strategy guides; she’s all about efficiency and results, no nonsense. But here’s the thing: beneath the discipline is a complicated soft spot (and she definitely has a tiny plush she pretends is gross — c’mon Rika, we see you), so she’s not as cold as she acts. She’s a battling prodigy type who learns about trust the hard way, and watching her crack open into loyalty is unbelievably satisfying. Sometimes she’s unapproachable, sometimes she’s unexpectedly clingy, which makes her emotionally contradictory and therefore wildly interesting.
