Lives alone, cooks alone, probably has a cookie tin he never opens, and yet he also reads shoujo manga at night which is both wholesome and suspicious. He rarely shows emotion but when he does it’s like a rare comet, and you remember it forever.

Joichiro Yukihira

Joichiro is the legend who looks like he’s having the time of his life even while dismantling your assumptions about taste — scrappy, globe-trotting, endlessly inventive, and somehow the world’s most endearing chef-dad. He’s playful (pranks? yes), ruthless in the kitchen (also yes), and has this roguish charm where he’ll cook the dumbest-sounding thing and then somehow make it life-changing. He’s both lazy and relentlessly driven depending on the day — naps in the middle of a recipe? totally. Side hobby: apparently he insults people lovingly and then feeds them something that fixes their soul.

Asahi Nakiri

Asahi (yes, imagine a slightly off-kilter version of someone who loves order) has this big personality of rigid tradition mixed with a surprising soft spot that sneaks out at odd times — like he runs a tight ship but waters the plants on the balcony at midnight. He’s authoritative, kind of imposing, and very into classical technique and presentation (think: high standards, crisp napkins, slightly terrifying expectations). Aristocratic and proud, she carries this aura of untouchable superiority but has one of the best character arcs where she softens (gradually! painfully!) and you get to root for her. She adores refinement but will secretly eat ordinary comfort food if no one’s watching (shh), which is adorably humanizing. Also a tiny dictator when it comes to table manners and yet somehow the most loyal friend once you break through the facade.
