About “Bocchi the Rock!” in a few words:

Bocchi the Rock! is a comedy anime series that revolves around Hitori Gotō, an extremely anxious and socially awkward girl who aspires to become a rock musician. With the help of her new friends and bandmates, she navigates the world of music and friendship while battling her own fears and insecurities.

Meet the characters from Bocchi the Rock!

Hitori Gotou

Okay, Hitori is the walking embodiment of anxious adorableness — painfully shy, genius-level overthinker, and somehow the heart of the whole mess. She mutters to herself, imagines entire conversations that never happen, and then plays these tiny perfect guitar parts like she never doubted herself for a second (which she totally did, obviously). She’s equal parts “don’t look at me” and “please, please notice my song,” and yes she names her guitar and sometimes forgets people’s names even if she likes them a lot. Also she hoards weird snacks in her bag and will absolutely panic but then deliver a line that makes everyone stare, which is very chaotic and endearing.

Nijika Ijichi

Nijika is the sunshine rhythm machine — drummer, organizer, friend-wrangler, and the band’s unofficial calendar app. She’s endlessly upbeat, practical in a weirdly soft way, and will cheer you on while also reminding you to hydrate and maybe to text your mom back, which is both comforting and A LOT. She can be startlingly perceptive about people’s moods but also occasionally loses her keys for three days straight, classic. Also somehow she cooks like a saint when she’s not arranging after-school practices, and yes she cries at objectively cute things sometimes, no shame.

Ikuyo Kita

Ikuyo is the flashy, fashion-forward string-slayer with the Slightly Intense Smile — confident, competitive, and secretly a huge softie who will roast you and then hand you a tissue. She loves being onstage (duh), loves trends, and has this bossy mentor vibe but will also drop everything to hype a friend mid-conversation — which can be chaotic if you’re not ready. She’s surprisingly sentimental about dumb little things like theme songs for rainy days and will absolutely eat instant noodles at midnight while planning a wardrobe change for a gig. Contradiction alert: she acts like the band’s big sister but will prank you mercilessly, and you’ll still love her for it.

Ryo Yamada

Ryo is the cool, low-key bass anchor who gives off “I’ve seen things” energy and also buys everyone snacks for no reason, which is suspiciously wholesome. She’s dry, deadpan, practical, and somehow the person who keeps the band from falling into total chaos — but also the one who will text a single emoji and make it terrifyingly effective. She collects tiny plants or cat stickers or both (hard to tell), and will scold you for sloppy technique while secretly being impressed when you try. Calm and kind but capable of sudden, baffling childlike enthusiasm about guitars, midnight drives, or very specific guitar pedals.

Kikuri Hiroi

Kikuri is the deliciously mysterious wild card — part mentor, part scene legend, part wildcard who shows up with a ridiculous idea and somehow makes it work. She’s laconic and sharp, the kind of person who says one sentence and changes the plan for the next month, plus she has weird little habits like collecting tiny rubber frogs or insisting on a very specific stage entrance ritual. She pretends not to care about rules but also organizes the band’s setlist with borderline obsessive precision (which is adorable), and she oscillates between cryptic and motherly in about five seconds. Expect equal parts eerie cool and weirdly earnest pep talk; she’s the kind of person who will both roast you and save your life.
