Meet the characters from Made in Abyss
Riko
Oh man, Riko is this unstoppable ball of curiosity and stubbornness — like, she’s basically a human compass pointed at the Abyss. She’s brilliant and messy, scribbles notes everywhere, but also drops her pen every five minutes and insists on exploring anyway. Brave to the point of reckless, but also the kind of kid who will cry at a sad song and then immediately climb a cliff because reasons. She’s endlessly optimistic, slightly reckless, and somehow genuinely convinced that maps (and snacks) can solve most problems.
Reg
Reg is the adorable robot-who-acts-human and it’s simultaneously wonderful and terrifying, because he has this huge laser arm but also gets confused by jokes. Stoic and loyal to a ridiculous degree, he protects Riko like it’s the only program he’ll ever run — also he hoards cute little metal trinkets, apparently. Mysterious past, massive power, but a kid-level curiosity about everything (especially sweets? maybe). He’s simultaneously an ancient weapon and a squishy friend; it doesn’t make sense and I love it.
Nat
Nat is that warm, practical presence who feels like home — you know, the kind of person who can fix a rope and tell a story about sea monsters in the same breath. He’s steady, a little gruff sometimes, but very sincere; he worries a lot quietly, which is the worst because he never says it until he has to. Tends to be underestimated but is actually pretty clever and maybe a secret softie for tiny animals (or maybe that was a rumor, who knows). He’s dependable in the way that’s boring on paper but heroic in action.
Shiggy
Shiggy is a weird little spark — energetic, nosy, and somehow always in the middle of chaos like it’s their personal hobby. Loud, enthusiastic, and slightly dramatic; will narrate the entire day as if they’re writing a play and I love that for them. Honestly kind of a wildcard: one moment rescuing people, next moment gets distracted by a shiny rock and disappears for hours. They’re equal parts comic relief and surprisingly brave when the chips are down.
Marulk
Marulk is awkwardly adorable — he’s the medical assistant with a chaotic heart and a fashion sense that alternates between professional and “I found this in a chest.” Sweet, a bit flustered, tends to overexplain things and blush at any compliment, which is kind of low-key amazing. He’s scarier-competent than he looks (don’t let the doe eyes fool you), and also has a weird fondness for… herbal teas? or was it pickles? either way, very comforting.
Ozen
Ozen is the gigantic, merciless legend you feel in your bones — imposing, blunt, and hilariously unafraid to humiliate you into becoming a better person. She’s like a walking geological feature: immovable, ancient, sudden avalanches of brutal honesty, and also secretly protective in a way that comes out as practical cruelty. She’ll crush you with a sentence and then save your life because she decided you might be useful — which is honestly endearing if you’re into trauma bonding. Also, she collects tiny keepsakes for reasons she will never explain.
Kiyui
Kiyui is this gentle, soft-spoken presence who seems quieter than everyone else but actually notices everything — the little details, the tiny shifts in mood, the crumbs on a map. She’s patient and kind, like a warm blanket, but don’t be fooled: when she cares about something she’s stubborn as all heck and surprisingly fierce. Loves humming while she works and has an odd habit of arranging things by color (or maybe by mood, I can’t remember). She’s low-key essential, the kind of person you only realize you need when they’re gone.
Simred
Simred is the eccentric scholar type who hoards relic facts like trading cards and will lecture you for hours about abyssal taxonomy (and mean it, passionately). A bit scatterbrained, with wild hair and glasses perpetually sliding down the nose, but brilliant and slightly ominous if you ask too many questions. Talks in tangents, collects jars of… specimens? maybe candy, possibly fossils, and will save your life with obscure knowledge when the plot demands it. He’s equal parts lovable nerd and “did-he-just-make-a-dangerous-experiment?” which keeps everyone on their toes.
