Meet the characters from Animal Kingdom
Andrew ‘Pope’ Cody
Oh man, Pope is the kind of patriarch who makes you hold your breath and then clap because wow, he actually pulled it off — and also maybe you’re a little terrified. He’s brutal and brilliant in equal measure, a mastermind with a moral code only he understands (which shifts, obviously, but don’t ask his neighbors). He’s terrifyingly calm right before things explode, collects weird little things like old postcards or matchbooks (or was it coins?), and somehow plays classical music while planning a heist — yes, really. There’s a softness you catch sometimes, like he remembers people in ways that matter, but then he’ll do something that ruins that moment and you’re like, okay, never mind.
Craig Cody
Craig is the steady one — not boring, no, more like the anchor that refuses to snap even when the storm is showing off. He’s quiet, loyal, and weirdly domestic sometimes — you can picture him fixing a leaky sink or humming while he works on something mechanical (maybe a boat? a lawnmower? I forget). He tries to be the moral center, keeps the family practical and less combustible, but don’t be fooled: when pushed he has a short fuse and can be scarier than people give him credit for. He’s the guy you imagine making coffee at dawn and reading old newspapers, but also capable of things that would make you drop your mug.
Deran Cody
Deran is messy-feeling-in-the-best-way: vulnerable, impulsive, and somehow weirdly artistic under all that chaos — he’s the one who cries at movies but also lifts cars for fun, I swear. He’s loud with his feelings, clumsy with decisions, alternately kind and shockingly selfish, which makes him painfully human and also kind of lovable? He loves attention but hates being pinned down, and there’s this unpredictable softness to him — dogs love him, kids maybe, and he probably has a terrible karaoke song he belts out at 2 a.m. Also, he’s the sibling who surprises you by being brave in tiny unexpected ways, even when he’s trying not to be.
Joshua ‘J’ Cody
J is the narrator-in-your-head kid who’s way smarter than his age and deeply conflicted about everything, which is the whole vibe — brilliant, lonely, and a little wild-eyed. He’s loyal to a fault, curious as hell, and constantly trying to figure out who he is separate from the family machine (spoiler: it’s hard). He’ll read a book in a stolen minute, make a plan that seems too clever, and then panic five minutes later — adorable and terrifying combo. He’s the one who notices small things, keeps mental lists, and probably remembers your birthday even if he pretends not to care.
