Kizumonogatari Character Profiles
Shinobu Oshino
Known in her legendary vampire form as Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade, Shinobu Oshino is an ancient, formidable presence whose regal pride contrasts sharply with her vulnerability. In Kizumonogatari, a desperate encounter with Koyomi Araragi binds their fates and leaves her diminished in stature and power. She can be imperious and theatrical, yet her isolation gives her bond with Koyomi a poignant intensity. Beneath the fearsome reputation is someone profoundly affected by the possibility of companionship.
Koyomi Araragi
Koyomi Araragi is a socially withdrawn high school student whose chance encounter with the vampire Kiss-shot changes his life. Though he claims to prefer solitude, his instinct to help someone in danger outweighs his fear of the consequences. That compassion brings responsibility as well as power, and he is quick to blame himself when events go wrong. His connection with Tsubasa Hanekawa offers a rare opening in his guarded routine, revealing the empathy beneath his self-deprecating manner.
Tsubasa Hanekawa
Tsubasa Hanekawa is the top student in Koyomi Araragi’s class, known for her intelligence, composure, and thoughtful curiosity. Her conversation with Koyomi introduces the rumor of a vampire, and her open-minded interest in the supernatural sets her apart from his more guarded outlook. As danger enters their lives, she remains loyal and clear-headed, offering both practical insight and emotional steadiness. Her kindness is sincere, but her readiness to help can place her in harm’s way.
Meme Oshino
Meme Oshino is an eccentric oddity specialist who becomes an important guide to Koyomi Araragi and the vampire Kiss-shot. Casual in manner and fond of teasing, he is far more calculating than his laid-back appearance suggests. Rather than taking one side outright, Meme works to keep the supernatural conflict in balance, offering information and practical options while leaving others to act. His approach can seem detached, but it reflects a belief that people must take responsibility for their own decisions.
